SUMMARY:The Grief Journey: Navigating the Waves of Grief and Loss
DESCRIPTION:Grief is often misunderstood.  We live in a society that expects us to quickly get over grief and yet grief has no timeline.  Grief cannot be rushed or “fixed” and requires attunement\, compassion and patience.  Understanding the needs of grieving clients empowers counselors to help their clients navigate the grieving process.  In this workshop we will teach action methods you can use to address the needs of grieving clients.   \nAction Methods in Grief Counseling \nAction methods such as psychodrama\, sociodrama and sociometry offer tools that promote self-awareness\, foster emotional expression and encourage clients to engage with their loss in individual work or in a supportive group. Psychodramatic methods function as catalysts to access clients’ inner knowing.  They enable grieving clients to tune into the remembered and felt sense of their loved one to resolve difficult and/or painful grief issues.  When clients show their story rather than telling it\, clients gain insight that allows them to shift their narrative and find new ways of coping. For those working with groups\, these action methods help build a sense of community and connection\, decreasing the sense of isolation that comes with grief Ultimately\, action methods can help individuals process their grief in a holistic way\, paving the path toward healing\, growth\, and the discovery of meaning after loss. \n  \nWorkshop Overview \nThis workshop for social workers\, mental health counselors\, creative arts therapists\, coaches and clergy will teach how to address the needs of individuals who are grieving and explore components of grief through experiential activities. SUMMARY:Embodying Recovery: Exploring a Roadmap for Thriving
DESCRIPTION:CLICK HERE TO REGISTER \nSaturday June 13-Sunday June 14\, 2026 \nAt Boughton Place – 150 Kisor Road\, Highland\, NY 12528 \n  \nMost of the attention given to treating Substance Use Disorder focuses on getting people clean and sober.  This is a good start.  But what if you could help your clients move from white knuckling sobriety to living a life of fulfillment\, purpose and meaning without substances?  In order to do this\, you need to understand the Stages of Recovery Model*.  The Stages of Recovery model lays out a roadmap of the recovery process that starts at stabilization in which people get into recovery for real and goes through fulfillment in which people achieve a life where they live in gratitude\, acceptance and serenity.  While proficiency in the Stages of Recovery model is a requirement for peer support certification in several states\, most peer support professionals only grasp the model at a surface level and few people outside of the peer support professional community have even heard of the model. \nDeveloped by J.L. Moreno\, Psychodrama\, Sociometry and Sociodrama provide a way to get beneath surface level understanding and actually experience the Stages of Recovery at an embodied level. \nWhat are Psychodrama\, Sociometry and Sociodrama?  Psychodrama is an experiential\, action method in which participants use role playing to explore personal issues\, relationship dynamics and the effect of behavior patterns in action.   Sociometry provides a way to measure and map relationships in a group and allows group leaders to create cohesive groups in which participants are able to connect with other group members and feel safe enough to share.  Sociodrama is an action based method that uses role playing to help participants to explore social roles. \nWhy attend “Embodying Recovery-A Roadmap for Thriving?” During this two-day workshop\, counselors\, therapists\, substance abuse treatment professionals and peers\, trainers and facilitators  will have the opportunity to step into the recovery journey\, explore new perspectives\, rehearse new personal and professional roles\, and experience the stages of recovery at an embodied\, felt level. \n*This model was developed by Kathleen O’Connell (https://www.amazon.com/Bruised-Life-Lifes-Wounds-Gifts/dp/0925190322) and was expanded by Phil Valentine (https://www.linkedin.com/in/phillip-valentine-rcp-272409b/)  at CCAR (https://ccar.us/).   An illustrative graphic of the model was later added by Ruth Riddick (https://www.linkedin.com/in/ruthriddick/). \n  \n  \n
